Understanding Strategy, Observation and Decision-making through the Werewolf Game at Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy

Understanding Strategy, Observation and Decision-making
Spread the love

Pranav led a very interesting session about the well-known strategy game Werewolf during a recent players’ meet at Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy. Although the activity seemed enjoyable and light-hearted at first, the workshop focused on deeper ideas such as trust, communication, observation, decision-making, and reading behaviour of players under pressure.

The game put players in situations where they had to protect themselves, think critically, assess reactions, and cooperate in the face of uncertainty. Through this exercise, players learned how awareness, emotional regulation, and strategic thinking may affect decision-making in games and competitive sports like golf. So, let us see what went by in this interactive session!

Understanding the Structure of the Game

Pranav started out by outlining the many roles that each character played in the game and how they all contributed to the broader plan. The game consisted of:

  • Werewolves
  • Villagers
  • A Doctor (Mystic Seer)
  • A Seer (Detective)

Each participant randomly received a role through chips marked with initials such as:

  • W – Werewolf
  • V – Villager
  • MS – Mystic Seer (Doctor)
  • S – Seer (Detective)

The werewolves’ goal was to kill civilians in secret while avoiding detection. In the meanwhile, the villagers had to use vote, discussion, and observation to decide as a group who the werewolves were.

How the Game Progressed

The game followed a night-and-day cycle.

During the “night” phase:

  • One participant was secretly chosen by the werewolves to be eliminated.
  • After that, the doctor decided which player to save.
  • In his capacity as narrator, Pranav verified whether or not the individual- the seer had chosen to investigate was a werewolf.

After everything was over in the night phase, the “day” phase began, during which everyone discussed what had happened and tried to spot any suspicious behaviour before voting someone out. Pranav guided the game’s progression while maintaining tension and motivating players to engage in conversation actively.

The importance of Observation

Observation was one of the session’s most powerful themes.

The players soon discovered that observing conduct, emotions, body language, confidence, and communication patterns was more important for success in the game than luck. As discussions unfolded after each elimination, participants began analysing:

  • Who appeared nervous
  • Who was speaking too much
  • Who stayed unusually quiet
  • Who defended the others quickly
  • Who seemed overly confident

Players were also exposed to the psychological aspects of group dynamics and rivalry during this game. During the conversations, players even started making accusations against one another based just on their confidence and behavioural clues. The game also showed how quickly group decisions can be influenced by presumptions, particularly while under stress.

Decision-Making under Uncertainty

Making decisions based on insufficient information was another key lesson of the session.

The werewolves’ identities were unknown to the majority of the villagers. Despite this, they had to:

  • Analyse possible situations
  • Communicate effectively
  • Trust or doubt others’ identity
  • Make voting decisions collectively as a team

This closely resembles professional golf scenarios, where players frequently have to make decisions in the face of uncertainty based on the facts at hand, the course conditions, and their own judgment. The exercise also demonstrated how quickly attitudes within a group can change during conversations, particularly when powerful individuals influence them.

Communication and Confidence

As the rounds went on, players began defending themselves or accusing others more forcefully and strategically. While some participants tried to blend in, others tried to influence the group.

After each round, Pranav promoted candid conversation, enabling participants to:

  • Share suspicions with each other
  • Defend themselves in front of others
  • Interpret the previous actions
  • Observe emotional reactions of other players

The conversation showed how different ways of speaking to others affect their understanding of the message. The players were excluded from the proof because their conversation behavior was the only thing that showed their worth.

Team Dynamics and Pressure Handling

Even though the game happened in a rather peaceful setting, players still felt this competitive pressure, especially during the voting phase and the accusation stage. The werewolves had to keep a calm face and kind of maintain composure in their behavior while they hid their secrets throughout the session, like quietly, but also carefully. Meanwhile the villagers needed to stay sharp and remain vigilant, and they had to think in a critical kind of way, not just on instinct.

This game activity created an atmosphere where:

  • Players had to stay active and mentally engaged
  • Discussions became very strategic
  • Emotional reactions influenced outcomes of the game
  • Trust and doubt constantly shifted after every round

These situations indirectly reflected many of the mental and emotional aspects athletes experience during tournaments and competitive play.

Conclusion

This recent game session at Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy proved to be much more than just an enjoyable exercise. It  developed into an engaging activity for communication, strategic thinking, handling pressure, and astute observation. Additionally, it felt less like just playing and more like a serene but demanding activity where participants had to pay attention to minute cues and react quickly, even in stressful situations.

The exercise pushed participants to think beyond technical performance by putting them in scenarios that called for awareness, analysis, and quick decision-making. These kinds of exercises teach athletes the value of mental acuity, emotional regulation, and making decisions under pressure; all of which are equally important on the golf course.

This activity with the players at Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy was a definite success in both sports and life. At the end of the session, Pranav’s message to all the golfers was to rely on awareness, communication, and the ability to maintain composure under pressure, in addition to just simple golfing techniques and physical skills. We hope you enjoyed this read and took your lesson for a better game!

Happy golfing!
