Strength and conditioning is an integral part of the sports science at TSG. Having strength and conditioning coaches to guide you throughout your training journey is extremely crucial in an athlete’s all-round development. At Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy (TSG), a player’s success off the course is as important as his on-course performance.Optimal performance is based on power, speed, agility and balance, aside from technical training and skill development. Conditioning helps the athletes develop endurance so that they are better prepared for the game and are in better shape during long tournaments.
We recently had a unique strength and conditioning session as a part of our weekly player meetings at the academy to teach our golfers the importance of having the right stance in an exercise which then translates to a better body posture in the game. Our strength and conditioning expert gave the players real-time feedback on executing exercises safely and effectively while guiding them through hands-on demonstration, posture adjustments, and technique enhancements.
For instance, there is a “right way” to do something as basic as lifting a bar. If done with the right technique, this exercise will help maximize impact and reduce the chance of any kind of injury.. Every little thing counts, from the positioning of the weights to the elbow to the knee and foot alignment. These precise methods are essential since improper weight handling by athletes not only hinders their ability to build strength but also raises their risk of injury.
The key movements for exercises like squats were also broken down and explained to ensure the knees and toes were aligned correctly while taking the stance. In a physically demanding sport like golf, even minor posture mistakes can cause long-term problems if ignored.
In addition to strength, the session placed a lot of emphasis on mobility. The body can move freely and effectively when it is flexible. A golfer always runs the danger of strained muscles and decreased swing efficiency if they don’t have enough body mobility. Players are better prepared to produce strong and reliable performances on the course by increasing their flexibility and strength. At TSG, we stress that routines off the course are equally significant as the hours spent honing your swing and putt. Golfers may develop a strong body that can deal with the spontaneous nature of the game and perform well under duress by investing valuable time in enhancing body strength and providing the necessary conditioning.
One tip, “don’t undervalue the importance of a well-organized fitness program. You’ll notice an improvement in your shots, endurance, and general self-assurance on the course when your body is strong, flexible, and conditioned for endurance.”
Use strength and fitness as your secret weapon, train wisely, and remain consistent to improve your performance!
